On August 11, 2022, by Supreme Court Order 2022-42. The KJCMH is charged with exploring, recommending and implementing transformational changes to improve systemwide responses to justice-involved individuals with mental health needs, substance use disorders and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. The commission will focus on the vision, values and goals of a multiyear assessment to enhance the practice, quality and timeliness of the judicial response to cases involving these needs.
Comprised of more than 80 appointed members and over 400 professionals serving across its workgroups, the commission represents a collaborative, multidisciplinary effort. By engaging courts, behavioral health providers, community organizations and individuals with lived experience, KJCMH ensures its work is both practical and person-centered. Its initiatives, from statewide listening sessions to community mapping, are designed to turn input into action and promote lasting change for Kentucky's justice and behavioral health systems.
